Groundhog Day! From "Don't you worry??" to "Don't you worry!!"

One of our family traditions is watching this movie every year on Groundhog Day.  Our family would probably agree with Bronco:

Phil (Bronco): "It's like I said: I love this film; I've seen it over a hundred times"
Many life-lessons in this film, but I'll pick one, based on this scene: Don't you worry??


Rita: Don't you worry about cholesterol, lung cancer, love handles?

Phil: I don't worry about anything anymore.

Rita: What makes you so special? Everybody worries about something.

Phil: That's exactly what makes me so special. I don't even have to floss.
 
Worry. It's insidious.  It does great damage to us...and to those around us.
 
I know my own worry has caused damage to myself in terms of panic attacks, loss of sleep, irritability, etc. 
It has also had a negative impact on my marriage, which I regret.
 
But there is "a way out".  Phil says, "I don't worry about anything anymore....that's exactly what make me so special."
 
He didn't worry, because he already knew everything that was going to happen.
 
We don't have to worry either.  Because we know the God who knows everything...that's going to happen. 
And He's not worried.
 
 In fact, He has told US not to worry and let Him bear the weight of our worries.
 
I Peter 5:7  "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you"
 
Jesus also wanted to "make us special", by freeing us from worry.
  
Matt 6:25,32 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life...your heavenly Father knows your needs.  
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 
 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. 
Each day has enough trouble of its own.
 
When we worry, we are trying to be God.
When we trust, we are admitting that there is a better God, and leaving things in His hands.
 
When I became a Christian, my favorite Album was by a band called The Allies. 
It's cheesy 80's, but the song is a reminder of God's faithfulness to "control the future, as He has the past":
 
"Don't you worry! Tomorrow will take care of itself. I'm taking care of you" 

And so, here's to another GHD....AGAIN:
 
"I don't worry about anything anymore...That's exactly what makes me so special."

    For those who are believers we know that everything is going to work out for the glory of God and that is a comforting thought.

Memorial Day: Both Sides of the Gun

"Maybe God can be on both sides of the gun" -Say When by THE FRAY I couldn't sleep last night.  I started thinking about Memorial Day, which is now today. I thought it was odd how little we Memorialize the Civil War, which was fought on our own soil and with the highest US casualty count.   620,000 lives lost is so many, but it's even more staggering when you consider this:  This represented roughly 2% of the US population.    Taken as a percentage of today's population, the toll would have risen as high as 6 million souls! Inwardly Renewed day by day

I took the LG's (little girls) to High Rise, yesterday.  Turning 47 today, it was a good reminder of 2 Cor. 4:16: "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day." While my body is slowing down (and "high rise" has become "low rise"), I am continuing to grow spiritually.  I am thankful for that.  I am also thankful for just enough energy to keep up with these little ones: These verses give me hope: Isaiah 46:4  " Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you." Job 12:12 " Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?" Love, ~Dad
